Play Spaces: Our Writing & Drawing Center

At the moment I am slowly working through the creating playful learning spaces ecourse on playful learning.  I am enjoying this very much and learning so much as well.  It's fantastic for setting up home play spaces for different age groups.

One of the first places that I set up was the writing and drawing center.  Because Miss M is only one and very inquisitive and Master E is a bit older and because we are short for space I decided to put the writing and drawing center in a plastic roller storage box and keep it under their little wooden table.  This way Master E can access it when Miss M is having a nap etc.  I can also pull out items that are appropriate for Miss M whilst keeping the other items away.

Here are some pictures of our writing and drawing center.

Different kinds of paper, I organised them into plastic sleeves so they are easy to sort when setting them out.
Custom made tracing cards.  I printed them on normal paper then covered with clear contact.
This is originally an idea from Mariah from Playful Learning - Learning Family Names.  I adapted it for our space and used snap lock bags instead.
An A5 art journal, I think this size is good for small hands.
A small chalk board each with a sponge.  I got these cheaply from Big W.
This is the little caddy when it is set up on the table. Crayons, scissors, pencils and white board markers.
This is where we store all the writing and drawing tools.  We have short beeswax crayons, chalk, pencils, crayons, white board markers, white board eraser, foam letter and number stickers, glue, and scissors.  As we continue using this drawing and writing center we will add to it as our needs change.
Sitting nicely under the table :)

So there you have it our neat little drawing and writing center.  Since setting it up both Master E and Miss M have enjoyed using all the different elements to it!
